How to Password Protect a Link 🛡️
Adding a password to your link is simple and happens directly during the link creation process.
- Navigate to your Wonzly Dashboard.
- Click the advanced options icon (sliders) next to the "Shorten" button.
- In the advanced menu, locate the Password Protection field.
- Enter a strong password. You can click the "eye" icon to reveal and verify the password you typed.
- Click Shorten.
Your link is now instantly encrypted!
Important: Wonzly hashes all passwords using industry-standard encryption before storing them in our database. We do not store plaintext passwords. If you lose the password, you cannot retrieve it—you will need to delete the link or update it with a new password.
The Visitor Experience
When a user clicks on a password-protected Wonzly link:
- They will be intercepted by a secure Wonzly gateway page.
- They will see a prompt indicating the link is locked.
- They must enter the correct password to proceed.
- Upon successful entry, they will be instantly redirected to the original destination.
If the password is incorrect, the gateway will explicitly reject the attempt and the user will not be redirected.
